An autoclave is a high steam pressure instrument which is used to kill bacteria, viruses, fungi and miscellaneous microorganisms to make objects sterile and safe for use. It is used in various industries, especially in healthcare, laboratories, and production, to sterilize equipment, instruments, and different types of materials.

Autoclave is also called Sterilizer because it sterilizes (making something bacteria free) materials. Usually an autoclave is operated at three different temperatures 121°C, 126°C and 134°C; steam pressure is automatically adjusted by the instrument according to the temperature value. For example, at 121°C steam pressure maintains at 15 psi. the process of killing bacterial with combination of temperature and pressure is called sterilization.
